Kampala - Central Uganda, Feb 14: Mama Miria Obote has pitched up her battle camps in the heart of Kampala, taking her presidential bid to Makerere University, Kawempe and Rubaga. Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission yesterday foiled plans by dictator Museveni’s NRM-0 cadres to disrupt Mama Miria Obote’s rally at Nakaseke town. On discovering a plot that was being co-ordinated by a state minister to stage-manage some kind of `Angry protesting people´poised as Baganda victims venting their anger on UPC, officials of the party contacted the Electoral Commission which swang into action nabbing the plot in the bud. To the NRM-0's disappointment, the crowd that turned at the Nakaseke rally did not jeer, but cheered Mama Miria Obote during her address. Mbarara-Western
Uganda, Jan 30:
Out of fear of state terror and political intimidation, the inhabitants of
western Uganda say most people there, cannot openly show nor express their
political affliations. In a summary report on the UPC western Uganda
nationwide campaigns, the National Chairman of UPC, Prof Patrick Rubaihayo
said, the dictatorship has also run down all infrastructures such as health
facilities that were meant to help the ordinary Ugandans in western Uganda.
Rubaihayo named Uganda’s minister Amama Mbabazi and the NRM national
political commissar Kiyonga as some of the most dreaded and feared NRM
cabinet members in Kanungu and Kasese respectively. Citing testimonies from
un-named sources, Rubaihayo also said, there are many people who don’t
support nor agree with the NRM dictatorship, but fear what would happen to
them if they were seen attending rallies of other political parties. He said
just 2 weeks before they took their campaigns to western Uganda, UPC was a
tabboo. However, people especially supporters and members of the party are
now casting fear away and are beginning to openly identify with UPC, with
some offering to fill in and contest for parliamentary seats in western
Uganda. Prof Patrick Rubaihayo who also is the chairman of Mama Miria
Obote’s campaign team said, the district intelligence security officer in
Kozo (closeby to dictator Museveni’s adoptive home), stopped UPC from
holding its rallies at many points within Kozo town. UPC finally held its
rally at a co-operative society premises which its chairman readily
offered, saying, “Well, let them hold their rally here. In any case, they
built it!”

Besigye. The masquaraders are reportedly lying that UPC, which was on a
nationwide campaigns, wants its members and supporters to vote for only one

Before leaving Kabale this morning, Mama Miria Obote visited the widow of late Rupambara (who until his death was a faithful active member of the party). After 20 years of the ban on multiparty politics, faithful members of Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) in western Uganda including Kisoro district begin to rise up to identify with their party that had for twenty long years been subjected political hostility and persecution by the NRM dictatorship. Describing the rally which was held in Kabale town yesterday, an official of the campaign team said, the rally registered the highest number of people more than any other rallies addressed in western Uganda. The official noted that the party and its members and supporters in western Uganda lack proper leadership and resources, and that party members and supporters fear political persecution by the NRM dictatorship. After meeting groups and individuals of various interests in Masindi, Mama
Miria Obote this morning laid wreathe on the graves of former UPC
nationalist ex-freedom fighters, departed members of UPC who died of natural
causes, and those that died from persecution by dictator Museveni’s Kampala
NRM Regime. Speaking in a tough voice before Mama Miria Obote addressed the
Masindi town rally, Mzee Adoko Akaki Nekyon, warned Museveni against his
insistent threats to overthrow any new civilian opposition leader and party
that wins the February elections. Nekyon said, the world has changed so much
that it has no room for military coups in Africa, and that the world
wouldn’t support a military coup in Uganda. Nekyon further castigated
dictator Museveni for claiming ownership over the Uganda
army,
which,
according to Nekyon, is a national army constituted by Uganda’s sons and
daughters. A Ugandan weekly tabloid owned by Museveni’s family members,
yesterday ran a frontpage story stating that Museveni had vowed, he will use
the Uganda military to overthrow the government of any winning opposition
leaders or party that wins next month’s general elections. Mama Miria Obote,

Pakwach, West Nile Region of Uganda, Jan 12: In his posting on the UPCnet Forum dated Jan 11, a Ugandan West-Niler member of Uganda Peoples Congress writes as follows: “MAMA MIRIA ROCKS PAKWACH, THE GATE WAY TO WEST NILE REGION – Fellow Congress men and women, this is just Red Hot News. In case the media failed to report the details, I would like to bring it to as it was. New as it happened and as you would want it to be. If we go by the New Vision report of the multitude of people that thronged the roadsides and the rally ground in Kitgum to listen to the sweet message of salvation from the mother of the Nation, let us pose a bit and think of Pakwach. Mama arrived at Pakwach round about 1pm E.A.S.T. I stand to be corrected but I think the last time Mama was on Pakwach bridge was way back in 1969 as she accompanied Dr. Apollo Milton Obote for the opening of the Bridge built under the first UPC administration. This time around, the convoy stopped right before crossing the bridge. The prestigious traditional Agwara cultural dancers from Erussi in Nebbi district drummed and danced with Mama across the bridge length of some 500 meters. We are all aware that it a dry season in that part of the world right now. It had never rained in the area since November 2005. No sooner had Mama crossed the bridge than cumulus-nimbus cloud gathered from nowhere, and cried heavy rain. The crowd was drenched in rain, and with so much euphoria and excitement they didn't seem to give a damn a bout the weather. After all in Alur culture that is symbolic of good omen. Mama then left Pakwach for Nebbi via Panyimur, Parombo, and Erussi. All along people thronged the road sides to have a glimpse of the next president and saviour. They swept the road, threw leaves and clothes for the convoy to pass on. Huge rallies were addressed in Panyimur and Parombo respectively. The convoy could not move fast. I caught up with them again at Erussi, where they reached late when the EC time to hold rallies had elapsed. Nevertheless, up to 9:30pm you could still hear crowds of people along road sides chanting UPC! UPC! And singing UPC patriotic songs. Mama's vehicle was about 50 meters away within the convoy being halted from time to time by the crowd. The entourage finally arrived in Nebbi at 10pm East African Standard time. Let us wait for what comes next from Nebbi town tomorrow as they climb the western escarpment of the Western flank of the Rift Valley enroute to Goli, Paidha, Nyapea, Zeu, and Warr. I will keep you posted Congress men and women. - John Okumu” Jan 11, 06

Apac,
northern Uganda, Jan 08:
Uganda’s only female presidential candidate in the race to become Uganda’s
first female president, Mama Miria Obote, this afternoon accused dictator
Museveni of conducting a systematic, slow and painful genocide with the
ultimate aim of making extinct the Acholi, Langi and Teso inhabitants of
northern and eastern Uganda. Adressing a mammoth rally in Apach town, Mama
Miria Obote termed as lies, Museveni’s claim that he waged a Guerrilla war
in Lwero because the 1980 elections were rigged. She said, even if
Museveni’s UPM candidates had been elected in 1980, they would not have been
enough to win the elections and form a government. Mama Miria Obote said,
while in the Luwero bushes, Museveni developed the vision to divide Uganda
into 2, the north and the south, and to make extinct the people of northern
and eastern Uganda. She accused the NRM Kampala regime of dictator Museveni
to have used its military that forcefully and violently robbed away cattle
and other livestocks from Langi, denying them the source of income and made
them very poor. Mama Miria Obote said, the 20 years old NRM genocidal war,
insecurity, poverty, and regional imbalances against the people of the north
and east of Uganda must stop. She accused the Uganda dictatorship of selling
away the peoples’ properties at a throw away price, citing the Uganda Dairy
Cooperation which was sold away at 1 US dollar. Keeping a consistent appeal
that she has made during at previous campaign rallies, she asked the people
of Apac including those who may have left the party to return to UPC and
only vote for UPC candidates from the grassroot to presidency. Telling the
women that this is their time to govern Uganda, she appealed to the women
voters to bring their family members of voting age to vote for UPC. She told
the men that she was not leaving them out. She said, together with other
women, they will take care of the men. Mama Miria Obote and her campaign
team are enroute to address another UPC rally in Aber this evening. Aber is
Apach district.

Amolatar, northern Uganda, Jan 07: Marking the second day of her northern Uganda- nationwide campaigns to become Uganda's first female president, Mama Miria Obote this morning headed for Amolatar district where she addressed several rallies including a major one in Kyoga. Mama Miria Obote's campaign team entourage and campaign schedule is moving at a snail speed because her supporters and members of her party are not only demanding she stops over, but are blocking her from proceeding unless she talks to them. Mama Miria Obote will this evening address a rally at Dokolo, which local organisers predict will record another mass attendance. Dokolo is another political stronghold of UPC whose members, in 2001, voted for Alex Okot Ogong to represent them in parliament. Okot later betrayed his electors, changed sides and joined the evil opressor regime of dictator Museveni, who in turn, rewarded Okot with a house-boy ministerial post. It is very unlikely that the people of Dokolo will again vote to return Okot to parliament.
